The Concordia Parish Police Jury announced today that a “no wake zone” is in effect on area lakes and issued the following press release:
A meeting was held today (May 23) with several members of the lake boards and several key members of law enforcement to discuss the status of the lakes in Concordia Parish.
Upon the recommendation of the Lake St. John Recreational District and due to the continued risks of homes being flooded and safety concerns of submerged piers on Lake St. John and Lake Concordia, these lakes will continue to observe a "no wake zone, idle speeds only" until further notice.
Members of the board for Black River Lake and Horseshoe Lake recommended reopening these lakes with no restrictions. However we urge extreme caution when traveling through Workinger Bayou due to trees obstructing parts of the canal.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will be working with the sheriff's department to increase patrolling on all lakes throughout the weekend.
