Dick Dowling Power

Memorial services for Dick Dowling Power, 85, of Vidalia, who died Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Merit Health Natchez, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2019 at New Covenant Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Seth Duhs officiating.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from p.m. Thursday until time of service at the church.

Mr. Power was born June 14, 1934 in Shreveport, LA, the son of Charles and Bessie Power.

He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and President of the LA/MS Locksmith Association. He taught safe manipulation (penetration) on an international level. He was also a member of the Vidalia Lions Club for over 50 years. He was owner of Power Safe and Lock for 18 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Elizabeth S. Power of Vidalia; three daughters, Betsy Sawyer of Vidalia, Jane Greer and husband, Kyle, of Ferriday, and Anne Donnarumma and husband, Fabrizio, of Baton Rouge; one sister Patricia Malmay and husband, Patrick, of Denver, CO; one sister-in-law Ruth Sessions of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren, Michael Sawyer and wife, Christy, David Sawyer and wife, Crystal, and Jamie Greer; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations are requested to be sent to either New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Natchez or St. Jude.

Eva Mae Garrett

Private memorial funeral service for Mrs. Eva Mae Garrett, 89, of Jonesville, will be held at a later date, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Mrs. Garrett was born on October 10, 1929 in Shawnee, OK. She passed from this life on June 13, 2019 in Jonesville.

Rev. Jackie R. Carroll, Sr.

Funeral services for Rev. Jackie R. Carroll, Sr., 59, of Jigger, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Jigger Apostolic Church with Rev. Hurby Hitt, Rev. Arlie Rowley, and Rev. Johnny Carroll officiating, Interment to follow in Shady Acres Cemetery,Ferriday, under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home, Winnsboro. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Jigger Apostolic Church, Jigger.

Bro. Carroll, an evangelist for 23 years and Pastor of Shady Acres Pentecostal Church Ferriday for five years, went to be with his Lord June 9, 2019. He loved people, music and laughing, and lived for his Lord and his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John C. Carroll and Betty Jackson Carroll, two brothers, Rev. Bo Carroll and Rev. Paul Carroll; two sisters, Lois Cirilo and Helen Carroll.

He is survived by his wife, Lydia A. Carroll of Jigger; daughter Jacqueline Ivy and her husband Brad of Brookland AR; son Jackie R. Carroll, Jr. "Bubba" of Winnsboro; grandchildren, Payton Ivy, Paris Ivy, Porcelyn Ivy, Drew Carroll, and Jaden Carroll; two brothers, Rev. Johnny Carroll and his wife Iris of Mineral Ridge, OH, and Bob Carroll and his wife Clista of Paragould, AR.; one sister Kathy Wallace of Summitt, MS. and numerous nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends and his church members of Shady Acres Pentecostal Church-Ferriday.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Howard William Cater

Funeral services for Howard William Cater, 91, of Sicily Island were held Friday, June 14, 2019, at Pine Hill Baptist Church, Sicily Island with Rev. Josh Adams and Rev. Joey Pepmiller officiating. Interment followed in New Pine Hill Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home, Winnsboro.

Howard was born on November 22, 1927 and passed away on June 12, 2019 in The Columns Community Care Facility in Jonesville.

He was a quiet, respected man beloved by his friends and family. "Bubby" as he was known by friends and family worked in law enforcement, manager of Chisum Gravel, a farmer and a cattleman.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Tyra Cater; his sisters Lois Christiansun and Fay Allen and a beloved granddaughter, Courtney Scott McGuffee.

Those left behind to treasure his memory are his son Howard L. Cater and wife Janie of Harrisonburg; a brother Thomas L. Cater of Harrisonburg; grandchildren Laurel Crouch and husband Larry of Monterey, Lee Cater and wife Staci of Harrisonburg, and Clay McGuffee and wife Mistin of Harrisonburg; six great-grandchildren and Lissa Schnieder, mother of Laurel Crouch and Lee Cater.

Pallbearers were Casey Cater, Jacob Cater, Jeffrey Cater, Lee Cater, Larry Crouch, Chris Krahn, Clay McGuffee and Braxton Tiffee.

Honorary pallbearers were Mike Cater, Paul Cater, Tommy Cater, Skip Jackson and Rick Krahn.

Joeph Doyle Breland

Funeral services for Joseph Doyle Breland, 79, of Natchez, MS were held Monday, June 17, 2019 at Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Natchez with Bro. Russell Wagoner officiating.  Interment followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Comer Funeral Home.

Joseph Breland was born on Saturday, May 25, 1940 in Clayton and passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019 in Vidalia.   He was a resident of  Natchez, MS and a member of Cliff Temple Baptist Church.
