Alton Blackman Pecanty

Funeral services for Alton Blackman Pecanty, 78, of Vidalia, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Vidalia First Baptist Church with Bro. Wes Faulk officiating.  Interment will follow at Acme Baptist Church Cemetery in Acme, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

Alton Blackman Pecanty was born on Friday, July 26, 1940 in Acme and passed away Monday, March 18, 2019 at M.D. Anderson.  He was a resident of Vidalia, a member of  Vidalia First Baptist Church and served in the US Army at Fort Hood, TX. Alton opened the first Kentucky Fried Chicken in Natchez in 1968. He remained affiliated with the company for 36 years. He was known far and wide as "The Chicken Man". He worked with the Vidalia Softball League for years and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Alton is the first person to receive the Lifetime Out of State Sportsman Mississippi License in 1993.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John Tillman Pecanty and Lena Ruth Pecanty;  two brothers, Huey Pecanty and Mitchell Pecanty; three sisters, Dorothy Ashley, Oma Ruth Sullivan and Peggy Rogers.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Stokes Pecanty of Vidalia; daughter, Andrea Irvin and husband Joe; son, Darin Pecanty and wife Amy; grandchildren, Dori Jett and husband Matt, Piper Tillman and husband Justin, Annika Pecanty, Ashlynn Pecanty, Ainsley Pecanty; great-grandson Rowan AltonTillman and one sister, Shirley Cliburn and husband Billy. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Darin Pecanty, Joe Pecanty, Ken Pecanty, Brent White, Tim Ashley, and Dwight Baker.

Honorary P\pallbearers will be Yates McGraw, Billy Cliburn, Sonny Gwin, Raymond Rabb, Pete Williams, Leon McCall, Seon McCall, Bobby Hamilton, Virgil Hoggatt, Morgan Ryan and all members of Beck's Bay Hunt Club.

Marie Dobson

Funeral services for  Marie Dobson, 82, of Ferriday, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the Pentecostal of the Miss-Lou Ferriday, with Rev. Gary Howington and Rev. Jeremy Howington  officiating.  Interment will follow at Shady Acres Cemetery, Ferriday, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

 Marie Dobson was born on Wednesday, January 20, 1937 in Ferriday and passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Camelot Leisure Living.   She was a resident of Ferriday, a member of Pentecostals  of the Miss Lou in Ferriday.

She was preceded in death by parents Luther and Geneva Mullins; husband Edmond Dobson; son Frankie Dobson; two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include four children, daughter Eva Knapp and her husband Danny, Clayton, daughter Patricia Dobson, Ferriday, son Johnny Ray Dobson, Clayton, son William Dobson and his wife Marcey, Ferriday; one brother Wesley Mullins and his wife Louise, Clayton;

four sisters, Sue Mullins, Ferriday, Barbara Jean Pounds, Memphis, TN, Gladys Denny and her husband Junior of Pearl, MS, and Margaret Thompson, Winnsboro; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Randy Woods, Andy Woods, Jamie Sanders, Danny Knapp, Michael Davis and Bo Allen.

Lizzie O'Neal Powell

Funeral services for Mrs. Lizzie O'Neal Powell, 93, of Clayton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019 from St. Mary Baptist Church on Lake St. John, Ferriday. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Concordia Funeral home.

Mrs. Powell, daughter of Phillip and Savannah Washington O'Neal was born August 25, 1925 in Natchez, MS and died at her residence.

Eva Frances Blalack

Graveside service for Frances Blalack, 86, of Waterproof, were held Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Natchez, MS with Bro. Paul Southerland officiating, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

Frances Blalack was born on Tuesday, July 13, 1932 in Natchez, MS and passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ferriday. She was a resident of Waterproof and a member of the First Baptist Church of Clayton. Mrs. Frances was a home maker who loved outdoor activities, especially her manicured yard. Her favorite passion was following her grandsons and great-grandsons and their sport activities. She never missed a game.

She was preceded in death by her father Walter A. Slover; mother Agnes Morris Slover; husband of 67 years Johnnie W. Blalack and sister Mary Alwell.

She is survived by her daughter Jinnie Stockstill and her husband Butch of Waterproof; brother Freddie Slover and his wife Glenda of Natchez, MS; sister Evelyn Riggs of Vidalia; two grandsons, Greg Stockstill and Cassie Hughes of Waterproof and Mark Stockstill and his wife Macky of Natchez, MS and two great-grandsons, Tyler and Wes Stockstill.

Pallbearers were Mark Stockstill, Greg Stockstill, Tyler Stockstill, Wes Stockstill, Joe Dallalio and Jayce Powell .

Donald Ray "Don" Horton

Donald “Don” Ray Horton, Sr., 83, of Ferriday, passed away peacefully at his home on March 13, 2019. Don was born February 25, 1936 in Simsboro to Eugene Wise Horton, Sr. and Minnie Cheetwood Horton.

Don was a lifelong resident of Ferriday.

He was in the Class of 1955 at Ferriday High School and part of the Ferriday Bulldogs’ championship teams that won four consecutive state football championships in the 1950s. Don played quarterback.

After high school, he was drafted by the US Army. He served for three years as a helicopter mechanic. After his discharge from the Army he married his high school sweetheart, Gail Dean, on July 16, 1959. Afterward, the draft was reinstated and he was called back to the Army and stationed in Washington State.

Upon returning to Ferriday, Don went to work for his father-in-law Herschel Dean. Later, Don and Donnie Daye purchased the business from Dean. They named the company D&D Drilling Company. Their sons continue the operations today.

Don and Gail were members of Ferriday First Baptist Church.

He was a founding member of Panola Woods Country Club in 1967 and a founding member of Huntington School. Described as a man of few words, Don spoke softly and carried a big stick. He was a loving family man.

Don enjoyed cooking every Sunday for family and friends as well as large crowds. He took great pleasure in growing vegetables. For many years Don loved hunting trips with his lifelong friends and especially looked forward to rabbit hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Hubert Horton and E.W. Horton, Jr; and two sisters, Mary Lou Bennett and Sue H. Langston.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Dean Horton; four children and their families, son, Donald Ray “Dee” Horton, Jr. of Natchez, MS and his two daughters, Rylie and Taylor Horton; daughter, Jill Horton Burks and husband Shawn of Baton Rouge and their children, Caroline Burks, Spencer Burks and wife Logan and Don’s only great-grandchild, Georgia Louise Burks; son, Herschel Jesse Horton and wife Kendell of Ferriday and their two sons, Cameron Horton and Colby Horton; and daughter, Kim Horton Poole and husband Jeff of McKinney, TX and their three sons, Payton Poole, Justin Poole and Jess Poole.

The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Saint Jude Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or ALS Association, PO Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-0022. The family would like to give a special thanks to Sandra Williams and Twana Sewell for their help and care of Mr. Horton.

Jerry James Wooten, Jr. was born on Wednesday, July 9, 1969 in Vicksburg, MS and passed away Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Riverland Medical Center.

Mary Carolyn Lemke was born on Wednesday, November 16, 1938 in Oak Grove and passed away Monday, March 18, 2019 in Sparkman, AR.

Robert Earl Rawles

Robert Earl Rawles was born on Thursday, March 7, 1963 in Natchez, MS and passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019 in Ferriday.
