It’s time for my annual what’s the best game to go to each week for Concordia Parish football followers.

The Vidalia Jamboree will have Block and Sicily Island meeting for two quarters, followed by Tensas against LaSalle. Vidalia will face General Trass in the final contest.

For those Viking fans who can’t make the trip to Sicily Island for Vidalia’s season-opening game at J.R. Peace Stadium, you can get a glimpse of the Tigers the Saturday night prior.

Ferriday is at Alexandria opening week, while Delta Charter is at Delhi Charter.

And if I told you there were two players from this area in Dandy Don’s top 2020 players in Louisiana, you would be thinking about Vidalia and Sicily Island.

Go to the back of the class.

There are no Ferriday, Vidalia or Delta Charter players in the top 100, although Sicily Island has wide receiver Keonte Dunbar at No. 56. The 6-foot-3, 200 pound receiver is the real deal.

Sicily Island defensive tackle Xavier Ramirez is at No. 86. Ramirez is 6-foot-2, 265.

Ferriday will have its hands full with Alexandria defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory, a defensive tackle rated No. 1 in the state by Dandy Don. Rivals has him at No. 6.

Alexandria also has safety Bud Clark, who is at No. 13 for Dandy Don and at No. 11 in the state by Rivals.

Week two has Ferriday hosting Plaquemine.

Ferriday coach Stanley Smith had Bastrop penciled in, but when it looked like Bastrop was going to be in an 8-man district he had to look elsewhere.

The LHSAA made Bastrop’s district two districts, but by then Smith already had Plaquemine.

Vidalia is at Block. Delta Charter hosts Peabody.

And while the Peabody band is not what it used to be, the marching Warhorses are still worth the price of admission on their own.

Vidalia opens its home slate on September 20 against West Ouachita. The Chiefs are coached by Matt Middleton, who had accepted the coaching job at Delta Charter back in 2013 only to have a change of heart less than a week later.

Vidalia will make the trip to West Quachita next year and will be playing at one of the finest facilities they will see all season.

Ferriday is at Sicily island, while Delta Charter makes the long trek to Jonesboro-Hodge.

The Ferriday-Sicily Island contest marks the first time these two schools will meet in football since 1988. Sicily Island dropped football for several years in 2001.

The final week of September has Ferriday hosting Rayville, Vidalia hosting Caldwell and Delta Charter at Oak Grove.

Flip a coin on Vidalia and Ferriday, although the Trojan-Hornet game will be pivotal in District 2-2A.

On October 4, Delta Charter hosts Sicily Island. This is always a huge and hotly-contested ballgame.

Ferriday is at General Trass, while Vidalia opens its district slate at Rayville.

The second week of October has Vidalia hosting General Trass, Ferriday at Madison and Delta Charter at Delhi.

General Trass was the surprise team of last year in 2A in north Louisiana. Vidalia went their for the Panther’s Homecoming.

October 18 gives us what could be the game of the year in the parish. Ferriday hosts Vidalia in their big rivalry contest that has had standing room only the past two years. Delta Charter hosts Tensas, which is another good rivalry.

Vidalia hosts district newcomer Madison on October 25.

Ferriday is at Mangham, while Delta Charter travels to St. Frederick in Monroe.

On the first day of November, Vidalia hosts Mangham, Ferriday hosts Delhi Charter and Delta Charter welcomes Cedar Creek.

The Vidalia-Mangham game has been a huge game the past couple of years. And the Dragons will be without former Dragon head coach Tommy Tharp for the first time in 10 years.

The final week of the regular season has Ferriday hosting Richwood in the first-ever meeting between these two schools. A lot will probably be riding on that outcome, not to mention the atmosphere should be playoff-like.

Delta Charter hosts Ouachita Christian, while Vidalia ends its regular season at Delhi Charter.

It’s time to start tuning up those Friday night lights.
