With less than a week until the final power rankings are released, Monterey High's Lady Wolves helped their own cause with a 9-6 win over Vidalia Monday in Monterey.

"That was a good win for us," said Monterey head coach Cary Shively. "Vidalia has a good ball club and we saw quality pitching."

The Lady Wolves are ranked No. 19 in Class B.

Monterey led 3-0 before Vidalia's Sara Cockerham delivered a 3-run home run to tie the game in the third inning.

Monterey pulled ahead 6-3 before the Lady Vikings tied the game 6-6.

The Lady Wolves took the lead for good in the sixth inning as Hannah Hitt delivered a bases-loaded single, Madison Passman singled and Madelyn Mount and Andy Gray followed with singles.

"It was good to see us respond after they pushed across some runs," Shively said.

Avery Cupit got the win for the Lady Wolves.

"Avery pitched well," Shively said. "She hit her spots."

Gray led the Lady Wolves at the plate with three hits.

Allie Lipsey batted in two runs.

Collecting two hits each for Vidalia were Macie Seyfarth, Tiffany Brewer, Cockerham, Alyssa Cupstid and Skylar Adams.
