Vidalia High’s baseball team salvaged a game against Delhi Charter, winning the third game of the series Saturday in Vidalia by a score of 11-5 after dropping the first two games against the Gators.
Because of the number of teams that do not play baseball in Vidalia’s district, each district foe plays each other three times.
“That was a big win Saturday,” said Vidalia coach Mike Norris. “We were able to right the ship a bit. We had been playing in a funk.”
The Vikings also lost pitcher and top hitter Peyton Fort last week to a torn ACL and MCL.
“Every time I would call a coach to set up times and such they would ask about Peyton,” Norris said. “We not only lost an outstanding pitcher, but we lost someone with a ton of baseball knowledge. But we still feel good about Tristan (Weatherly), Nick (Melton) and Dylan (LaPrairie) on the mound. We executed on offense and defense Saturday and we have to continue to do that.”
C.J. Chatman had a bases-loaded double to key the Viking offense.
Delhi Charter scored two runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth as the Gators defeated the Vikings 9-7 Thursday in Delhi.
Chatman doubled twice. while Tony Tolliver doubled and singled.
Tristan Weatherly walked twice.
Chatman drove in two runs, while Brandon Bozeman had an RBI.
Nick Melton, Bozeman and Brett Walsworth each singled.
