Authorities say a Franklin Parish School System bus driver was arrested on Friday morning and charged with driving under suspension after crashing her bus into another vehicle.

Louisiana State Police responded to an accident involving a school bus at about 6:40 a.m. on Hwy. 577 near Hixon Lane in north Franklin Parish. According to state police, Janice Norris, 52, of Winnsboro, backed a school bus she was operating into a 2014 Jeep Compass, driven by 43-year-old Amy Bourgeois, of Winnsboro.

The bus was occupied by about 30 students, according to police. Students were checked by EMS and no injuries were reported.

Adverse weather conditions are suspected to have been a factor in the crash, authorities said.

Norris was arrested and transported to the Franklin Parish Detention Center for booking. She faces an additional charge of improper backing. Her driver's license was suspended for non-payment of traffic tickets issued from out-of-state, according to police.

Schools superintendent Dr. Lanny Johnson said an investigation into the crash and driver is currently ongoing. Johnson said the school system is not notified when bus drivers' licenses are suspended.
