Franklin Parish began its offseason training Monday as Patriot head coach Whitney McCartney welcomed 71 players at 5:45 a.m.

“We’re doing 75 percent weight lifting and 25 percent conditioning drills,” McCartney said. “I was very pleased with the participation and how hard the guys worked. We lost 23 seniors from last year and have nine seniors and 10 juniors this year, so we’re having to start all over to a degree. When we get to July we’ll be 50-50 on weights and conditioning and we’ll be playing some seven-on-seven. By August we should be in good shape and able to focus on getting more ready for the season.”

Franklin Parish ended its spring practice with a spring game against West Ouachita at Ouachita High School on May 10.

“It went pretty good,” McCartney said. “We only had six play drives. We scored twice and they scored twice. We had a couple of good drives, but ran out of plays, We looked like a team that lost 23 seniors, but it is what it is. I love this group and they are a hard-working bunch.”
