Hunter “Dude” Jones, of Gilbert, will defend his American Kombat Alliance (AKA) amateur heavy weight title July 12 at the Horseshoe Casino Riverdome. Doors open at 6 p.m. with Jones fighting around 9 p.m.

Jones, who has a 2-1 record at AKA, will be fighting against Darnell Trotter. His opponent is a Shreveport native with a 7-2 record and has been called a free style fighter who likes to stand up and fight instead of wrestle.

“This fight is not going to go well for him,” Jones said.

Jones, who started training his senior year at Franklin Academy in 2014 with Andrew Scull, fights in the style of Dutch kick boxing and Brazilian jiu jitsu.

Jones is coming off a non title fight loss to Odie Delaney. Jones admits he was not 100 percent during the fight and was coming off an extended sickness.

“I fought Odie out of shape,” Jones said. “Now I have had more time to prepare mentally and physically. I feel like I am 100 percent.”

In the Biloxi fight, Delaney was a three time national collegiate wrestler.

Jones credits his success to his support from his family, trainers and fiancé, Eryn Ogden.

“I appreciate everybody that has helped me on this journey,” Jones said. “Everyone has been so supportive, and I couldn’t have gotten this far without them. They really keep me motivated to continue.”

Jones continues to train with Scull and occasionally travels to Baton Rouge to train with Thomas Webb. Additionally, Jones has been seeking nutritional and conditioning advise from Reagan Lloyd.

To win the amateur heavy weight title, Jones knocked out Corri Grant 30 seconds into the first round Oct. 27 at the Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City.
