Lady Cougars finished season strong; head to playoffs

Franklin Academy Lady Cougars finished their season strong a with a come-from-behind victory against Tallulah Academy Sept. 12.

Before Talulah Academy, the Lady Cougars clinched their district Sept. 5 by beating Prairie View 5-1.

In the Tallulah Academy game, the Lady Cougars were victorious 10-7. The game was tied  at four with FA batting in the bottom of the fifth when Anne Elise Sartin tripled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on bases. FA collected five hits and Tallulah Academy had eight.

Madison Truelove pitched the Lady Cougars to victory. She allowed eight hits and seven runs over seven innings, striking out three.

Hallie Herron went two-for-four at the plate to lead the Lady Cougars in hits.

Additionally, Ashlyn Rodgers, Sartin and Karlee Keene got hits during the matchup.


The Lady Cougars will begin playoff action as the top seed in the South State tournament being hosted by Prairie View Academy at Sterlington Softball Complex Sept. 21.

South state is made up of the top four finishers from each district in the south half of their association. The top four teams from south state qualify for the state tournament the following weekend which will be in Magee, Miss.

Top two finishers at the state tournament will play a best of three series to determine the state champion.
