Dozens of kids came out for an instructional day of basketball fundamentals at Family Community Christian School last Friday.

The camp, organized by FCCS principal Liz Rigdon, had an all-star group of instructors, headlined by Richwood girls basketball coach Michael Hunter. Assisting him was his son Michael Hunter, Jr., his daughter Jasmine Hunter and his nephew Tre’ Hunter.

Michael Hunter, Sr. was a former star basketball player at Grambling State University, before later coaching the West Monroe boys basketball team and now the Richwood girls.

Jasmine just wrapped up a star-studded career at West Monroe on the hardwood and will be attending Southern University in the fall.

Michael Hunter, Jr. is less than a month away from reporting to the rookie training camp on the gridiron for the New York Giants. Hunter joined the Giants as an undrafted rookie from Oklahoma State. Hunter was a star in basketball and football at West Monroe, before playing football at Indiana, then at Oklahoma State as a graduate transfer.

Tre’ Hunter is entering his senior season as a safety for the ULM football team. He was a four-year football starter at Richwood before joining the Warhawks in 2012.

Rigdon said the camp was set up thanks to a current teacher at FCCS that was a colleague of Michael Hunter, Sr. while at Richwood.
