Winnsboro Ponytails record two wins in World Series

The Winnsboro Ponytails have notched two wins and one loss for Louisiana during the Regional World Series Tournament in Sulphur Springs, Texas.

The Ponytail team beat Florida (6-4) and North Carolina (7-4) on Aug. 4 and lost in a well fought battle against Hopkins County (5-2) Aug. 3.

Hopkins County 5 - Winnsboro 2

Hopkins County scored one run in the second and four runs in the third to to beat Winnsboro even though the Ponytail team out hit Hopkins County with six hits to their three hits.

Katie Carson was in the circle for Winnsboro. She lasted two innings, allowed no hits and struck out two.

In the first game of a double header, Ponytails beat North Carolina 7-4 with strong first and fourth innings.

Avaree McCain and Karley Ferrington entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two innings each. The duo struck out four and walked none.

Ferrington also led the team offensively going two-for-two at the plate.

Winnsboro 7 - North Carolina 4

The Ponytails scored three in the first and four in the fourth innings. North Carolina was able to score one point in the third and fourth innings and two in the fifth innings during the contest.

Winnsboro Ponytails got on the board in the first inning when Emma Foster singled on a 1-0 count and scored one run.

Winnsboro put in a strong fourth inning when Jadyn Hutchinson and Tayte Erwin all contributed with RBIs.

Ava Foster was the starting pitcher for Winnsboro. She only surrendered four runs on three hits over five innings. Foster struck out nine and walked none.

Winnsboro 6 - Florida 4

In the second game of the double header, Ponytails faced Florida.

Even though Winnsboro gave up three runs in the first inning, they never gave up and defeated Florida 6-4.

Winnsboro got things moving in the first inning as Emma Foster doubled on a 0-1 count and scored two runs.

Going into the second inning, both teams were tied with three points, but the Winnsboro Ponytails pulled away scoring one point in the second and three in the third.

McCain singled on the first pitch of her bat in the second inning and scored one run. McCain went two-for-three at the plate to lead Winnsboro in the contest.

The only additional score for Florida would come in the third inning.

Ferrington was starting pitcher for Winnsboro. She went four innings, allowed four runs on four hits and struck out two.
