A week has passed since the storm and as we assess the damage, we thank God that no one was seriously hurt. We who live in the Garden District are all making progress — Sunday afternoon, picking up big pecans in the yard that were harvested early by the #2 tornado that struck in the Ouachita Valley sending hundreds of trees uprooted and debris and limbs everywhere. We just learned that there were two tornados, one in West Monroe and another in Monroe that stopped at ULM. As you look around, interestingly, few oaks of the "live oak" variety were harmed by the ferocious winds. LSU Forestry Department says that the Live Oaks sustain the winds the best.
