Al was born Jan. 26, 1944 in Jackson, Mich., and passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on Jan. 14, 2019. His parents were Albert Edward Loomis Jr. and Grace Le Tourneau Loomis.

Al lived all over the country during his upbringing including: Fort Wayne, Ind., Park Ridge, Ill., Garden City, N.Y., Boston, Mass., and San Diego, Calif.

He attended UC Berkley and graduated from UCLA with a Bachelors in Psychology in 1966. Thereafter, he attended LSU Law School and graduated in 1969.

He practiced law for 50 years. He clerked for the appellate court in Baton Rouge before starting his long legal career in Monroe.

It was his legal career that led him to Monroe where he met his beloved wife Joy. Joy and Al were married for nearly 38 years. Their children include: Albert Edward Loomis IV (spouse: Mae) and Alexandra Loomis Barham (spouse: Micah). Their grandchildren include: Elizabeth Nordstrom Barham, Albert Edward Loomis V, and Lillian Joy Barham.

Al will be remembered for his love for his savior, Jesus Christ, his best friend and wife, Joy, his children and grandchildren, for competition, hard work, traveling, especially in the Western mountain regions in his later life, fast cars, residential architecture and antiques, for being on the golf course situated in picturesque landscapes, and Bombay martinis on the rocks with a couple of olives with a touch of vermouth, shaken not stirred.

Others will remember him for his witty character, persistence, and his dedication to his family, work, and clients. A warrior and a legend.

The family would like to thank his legal staff: Mary Hamilton, Kayla Hance, and Chelsea Lowe for their devotion to him and for his little prayer warrior, Ellis Hay.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2019, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.
