Toll of winter

THE DEAD of winter has taken its toll on the landscape following two weeks of frigid weather throughout the state. The Catahoula National Wildlife Refuge is dull and gray as is the Ouachita riverbank at Harrisonburg although the green of the pines provides color on Fort Beauregard above the town. In the meantime, the rivers are rising. The Mississippi stood at 35 feet at Vidalia on Wednesday and is expected to rise to 47 feet, a foot below flood stage, on March 17. (Concordia Sentinel photos)
