A Clayton man has been charged with armed robbery of Taunton's on Louisiana Avenue in Ferriday.

The robbery was reported on Sept. 26.

Zavonta M. Washington, 21, 98 Nelson St., Clayton, with armed robbery in the matter and additionally charged with one brake light out, no insurance, failure to register vehicle and switched license plate.

According to Ferriday Police Investigator Richard Madison, Washington jumped over the counter at Taunton's at 9:20 p.m. and stole cash.

Two hours later, Washington was stopped by officers at Concordia Apartments for having a brake light out.

Madison said officers smelled marijuana in the cab, and then noticed money in the back of his truck that they found to have been taken from Taunton's.

"We were able to tie him to the robbery," Madison said.

Washington is being held at the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office jail.
