A traffic accident reported around 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon in Gilbert claimed the life of a 19-year-old female, according to information released by the Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to the call in which a vehicle struck a pedestrian. The person on foot entered the southbound lanes of U.S. 425 in Gilbert near the location of the Dollar General Store. The young woman, whose name was not released, was declared deceased at the scene by the Franklin Parish Coroner’s office.
According to Sheriff Kevin Cobb there is no indication that impairment played a part in the accident. Preliminary investigations revealed that the individual resided on Gaither Street. The accident remains under investigation.
Cobb and deputies expressed their “condolences, thoughts and prayers” to the family and friends of the victim.
