Penny Dean Daye

Funeral services for Penny Dean Daye of Baton Rouge, formerly of Ferriday will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2019, at First Baptist Church of Ferriday with Bro. Joseph Champion and Casey Young officiating. Graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery, Opelousas, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

Penny was born on Tuesday, April 18, 1940 in Ville Platte and passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019 in Pensacola, Fl.

Penny studied at LSU and received her associates degree from Stephens College in Missouri, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.  She was the feature twirler (at Ferriday High School and also for the University of Missouri).  She started the Canine Cuties drill team at Huntington School in Ferriday and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ferriday.  

She was preceded in death by her husband Donnie Daye; mother and father, Hershel Dean and Ada Williams and one great-grandson Wyatt Russell.

Survivors include her three sons, Donald Dean Daye and his wife Sheramie of Opelousas, Daryl Lance Daye and his wife Kathy of Johnson City, TN and Derek Andrew Daye of Baton Rouge; a sister Gail Dean Horton of Ferriday; two grandsons, Mitchell Daye and Dayne Daye; three granddaughters, Paige Daye, Kaelin Daye and Kayla Dugas and two great-grandsons, Layton Daye and Tyler Daye

Pallbearers will be Dean Daye, Daryl Daye, Derek Daye, Mitchell Daye, Dayne Daye, Dee Horton and Jesse Horton.

Jerry Sweat

Mr. Jerry Sweat was born on Saturday, January 28, 1933 in Allen Parish and passed away Monday, March 25, 2019.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Young's Funeral Home in Vidalia.


Darryl Keith Bell

Funeral services for Darryl Keith Bell, 50, of Ferriday, were held Saturday, March 23, 2019 from the Living Kingdom Ministries Church in Ferriday. Burial will follow at the Vidalia Cemetery in Vidalia, with Pastor Charles Minor officiating. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Concordia Funeral Home.

Mr. Bell was born February 25, 1969 in Las Vegas, NV and died March 19, 2019 in Baton Rouge.


Ernestine E. Martin

October 23, 1932-March 25, 2019

Funeral services for Ernestine "Ernie" Elizabeth Martin, 86, of Ferriday, will be held at 10 a.m Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church with Bro. Roger Myers officiating and a special message given by her sister, Barbara Starr. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

Ernestine Elizabeth Martin was born on Sunday, October 23, 1932 in Good Pine and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, March 25, 2019 at her home. She was a resident of Ferriday and a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God. Everyone that met Ernie knew that her family and God was the main focus in her life. Her family always knew they could count on her "direct line" when prayer was needed. Her family considered her their “Rock”.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. "Nub" Martin; her father, Jack Jackson; mother, Launa Scruggs; two daughters, Dianne Buckles and Kathy Freeman; two brothers, Mike Cotten and David Scruggs.

Survivors include one son, Jackie Martin (Angie) of Ferriday; two daughters, Renee' Ferguson (Randy) of Rogers, AR and Susie Dean of LaPlace; 11 grandchildren, Cindy Coleman, Misty Brumfield, Brad Martin, Cory Martin, Erica Ferguson, Greg Ferguson, Spencer Dean, Clayton Dean, Paul Houghton, Tim Houghton and Kristy Whitehead; three sisters, Dorothy Swaggart of Ferriday, Jean Duncan of Vidalia and Barbara Starr of Ferriday; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brad Martin, Cory Martin, Spencer Dean, Clayton Dean, Greg Ferguson, Hunter Martin, Jody Starr and Matt Parker.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rayford Buckles, Clif Starr, Randy Ferguson, Russell Huber, Jr. and Steve Dean.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Penny Crain, RN and Erika Wilks of Encompass Hospice and many family members for their special care. Memorials may be made to The Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Mrs. Aiguier was born March 12, 1930 in Stanton, MS and passed away March 24, 2019.


John Meche

Graveside services for John Meche, 85, of Ferriday, were held Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Natchez under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

John Meche was born on Sunday, March 11, 1934 in Washington and passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Camelot Leisure Living in Ferriday..

He was preceded in death by wife of 64 years, Opal Williams Meche; parents, Theodore Meche and Emethilde Quebeadea Meche; son Darrel Meche; brother and sister-in-

law, Etienne Meche and Vernice; brother, Joe Meche; two sisters, Mable and Angelle Meche and special Niece, Valerie Delafosse.

He is survived by two sons, Eddie Meche of Sunset and David Marchbanks and wife Loyce of Vidalia; daughter, Laurie Skates and her husband Ray of Vidalia; seven granddaughters, Kelly Kimball and husband Donnie of Vidalia, Dena Jackson and husband James of Vidalia, Aubrie LaSyone of Denham Springs, Stephanie Grosse' of Sunset, Abbie Temple and her husband Josh of Pineville, Cara Meche of Baton Rouge and Jessica Meche of Baton Rouge; He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Matthew Marchbanks, Wayne Coyle, James Cowan, Lyn Delaney and Nasif Gardner.

Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Hayes, Matt Maroon, Loyce Maroon, Mark Archer and Junior Harris.

Mary Lou B. Garner

Graveside services for Mary Lou B. Garner, 89, of Vidalia, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Marcy 27, 2019, at Forestlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with Rev. Wayne Spencer officiating, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

Mary Lou Garner was born on Saturday, March 15, 1930 in Blomburg, TX to William Bunting and Nettie Joseph Bunting. She passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019 in Vidalia. The family moved to Oil City where she finished high school and graduated from Elliot Business School in Shreveport.

Mrs. Mary was active in the Vidalia Methodist Church, she sang in the choir and took part in all church activities. She loved to do needle point, dance and take cruises. She loved animals, birds, and always fed the strays and her pet squirrels.

Mrs. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Thomas Raymond Parmeter and Brady Roy Garner III; brother Robert N. Bunting and sister Virginia Shaffer.

Survivors include her husband Brady Roy Garner, Jr. of Vidalia; brother Thomas E. Bunting of Oil City; two sisters-in-law. Margie JoAnn Garner and Hazel Lola Roton; two nieces, Charmin Rae and Lenora Pickett; nephew Charles Shaffer; caretakers, Dena Reece Myers and Susan Chapman and special friend Rev. Wayne Spencer.
