A Ridgecrest man was charged with two counts of cruelty to animals, including a golden retriever who died from malnourishment, said Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office (CPSO) Captain Elijah Bilbo.

Adrian B. Kiser, 35, 120 Apple St., Ridgecrest, bonded out of jail Monday on a $5,000 bond.

According to Bilbo, on Sunday, CPSO officers responded to a call of a suspicious person walking down Apple Street in Ridgecrest.

Officers did not find anything, but later received another call. Upon the investigation, officers came upon a malnourished golden retriever in the front yard of a house at 120 Apple St.

Bilbo said the dog was extremely malnourished with maggots on his body.

The officers went into the house and found another malnourished dog. Officers then questioned Kiser.

The dogs were taken to Miss-Lou Veterinarian Clinic, where the retriever died, Bilbo said.

"It's a very sad situation," Bilbo said.
