A Vidalia man was arrested after using a counterfeit $100 bill to enter a youth basketball game on Feb. 2.

Hugh W. Hedrick, 30, 111 Cross St., Vidalia, was charged with monetary instrument abuse and theft less than $1000.

According to Vidalia Police Department Criminal Investigator and Public Relations Officer Lt. Miranda Clifton, the person accepting entry fees for a youth basketball game at the Vidalia Junior High received a $100 bill from an individual who was identified as Hugh Wesley Hedrick.

"After returning the change she noticed the bill was counterfeit and stated this to Mr. Hedrick," Clifton said. "He then ran from the gym and sped away but not before a description of his vehicle and the tag was recorded."

Clifton said Vidalia police officers were contacted, but Hedrick could not be located on this night. An affidavit of arrest was served on Hedrick on March 7 at his residence in Vidalia. She said Hedrick was arrested without incident on the warrant.

He was magistrated by Judge Kathy Johnson, who set his bond at $8,000.

Clifton said the incident is still under investigation.
