The annual Chamber of Commerce Children’s Christmas Parade and opening of the “Oh Christmas Tree” exhibit at the Old Post Office Museum in Winnsboro’s Historic District welcomed the holiday season on Thursday, Dec. 1.
Children and their lighted and decorated riding toys made their way through the district beginning at the parking lot behind the Princess Theatre and ending at the museum where they were treated to hot cocoa and cookies courtesy of White Ford and a special visit with Santa.Â
Everyone was then invited in to view the opening of the Christmas tree exhibit where sponsored trees are decorated in a variety of themes ranging from traditional to whimsical. Children visiting the exhibit were given a chance to write a letter to Santa and place it in actual mailboxes once used at the post office, and an opportunity was also given to vote for a favorite tree for the “People’s Choice Award.”
The exhibit and letter writing opportunity are available until Dec. 22 when the tree named “People’s Choice,” will be announced. The winning sponsor’s name will be added to a plaque recognizing the honor.
In addition, there is an honor tree at the museum where donations to the museum can be recognized in memory or honor of someone.
