Louisiana State Police confirmed one road worker died from injuries sustained in a car accident that happened Tuesday just after 4 p.m. on Highway 165 in Caldwell Parish where it intersects with Highway 847.
After notifying his family, troopers released the identity of the road worker as 30-year-old Michael Roberts of West Monroe.
Roberts died from his injuries in an Alexandria hospital around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2014 Chevrolet pickup (construction vehicle), equipped with a large arrow board was stopped in the north bound outside lane.
The Chevrolet was stopped due to work being done in the roadway by three workers.
A Cadillac ATS, driven by 42-year-old Jan Williams of Columbia was traveling north on US 165 in the outside travel lane when she attempted to move into the inside lane but struck the rear of Chevrolet pickup and all three construction workers.
Two of the construction workers were transported to a local hospital for moderate injuries and one was airlifted due to severe injuries.
At 9:10 p.m., Troop F was contacted by the hospital, which stated 30-year-old Michael Roberts of West Monroe, LA had succumbed to his injuries and died.
State Police say Williams was cited for careless operation of a vehicle.
Impairment at this time is unknown. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
