Franklin Parish Patriot soccer team beat Delta Charter Storm of Ferriday Thursday night, 3-0.

With the win, Patriots improve their record to 6-7-3 and have hopes of making the playoffs.

The young Patriot team faced a tough district this season with Neville, ranked #2, Ouachita, ranked #7, and West Ouachita, ranked #10. FP’s team is made up of seven freshmen, five sophomores, three juniors and three seniors.

Even with the youth, head soccer coach Ryan Kincaid is proud of his team.

“I’ve enjoyed watching our youth mature,” Kincaid said. “It has been a joy to see them progressing through the season.”

Freshman Carlie Emfinger has anchored the Patriot’s fast offense this season.

“We’ve been able to push the ball up fast and react fast,” Kincaid said. “Our quickness doesn’t give the defense time to set or get their breath.”

Avery Banks, Carson King, Courtlynn Havard, Kelsey Ferrington and Belle Beard are key players in the group, Kincaid said.

“We see success when they are all on the same page,” he said. “They all play a vital part.”

Kincaid described the Patriot’s defense as “stubborn and aggressive” with Carlie Bankston being captain. Bankston plays sweeper for the Patriots while King is the stopper.

“Carson is the connect piece between the defense and offense,” Kincaid said. “This is like the point guard (in basketball).”

Outside defense is fast and young for the Patriots.

“They’re feisty and young but are doing good,” Kincaid said.

The Patriots played Sterlington Monday night and at press time still awaiting final word on their playoff opponent.
