Low River Level

THE SHRUNKEN Mississippi River is flowing at its lowest level on record for a 270-mile stretch. With a La Nina winter forecasted, the long-term outlook for “Old Man River” is unfortunately very dry, slowing barge traffic dramatically. River levels at Vidalia (pictured above) are 9.28 feet, according to the National Weather Service Wednesday. (Sentinel photo by Joey Martin)
