Barbara Jo Rice

Barbara Jo Rice a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend went to her eternal home on May 31, 2019, at the age of 73.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories daughter Karen Thompson of Baton Rouge, four grandchildren Tre’ Gautreau and wife Jamie of Gonzales, Jarid Thompson and wife Brittany of Tomball, Texas, Kristen Thompson and Cody Kirlin of New Orleans, Arleigh Apgar of St. Amant, four great-grandchildren Addison Gautreau, Jaxson Gautreau of Gonzales, Aiden Thompson, Dylan Thompson of Tomball, Texas.

Barbara was always the hard working and loving backbone of her family, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her loved ones. She is preceded in death by her parents Carley Cordell Miller, Laura Loraine Miller, daughter Jennifer Rice, sisters Irma Morace, Beverly Valdez, brother Carley Cordell “Butch” Miller Jr., niece Shea Shelton, and her loving friend Clint Melancon.

A memorial service was held at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs on Saturday, June 8. A memorial service was also held at Crowville United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 9, 2019. Interment followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Winnsboro.

The family would like to give special thanks to Mona Becnel, Ruby Reed, Lauryn Smith, all of her friends at Dow Plaquemine, the staff at the Pennington Cancer Center at Baton Rouge General Bluebonnet.

Margaret Elizabeth Griffin Murphy

Funeral services for Margaret Elizabeth Griffin Murphy were held Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the Gilbert Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fran Guy officiating. Mulhearn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Murphy was a native of Covington County, Mississippi. She grew up in the community of Williamsburg, near Collins, Mississippi. She graduated from Jones County Junior College, Ellisville, Miss. and moved to Gilbert, Louisiana in 1952. She was employed for several years by Martin Brothers in Winnsboro and for many years at the Franklin State Bank.

Mrs. Murphy is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde D. and Eva Holcomb, her beloved husband, John H. Murphy, her three brothers, William C. Holcomb, (wife, Faye, deceased) Charles B. Holcomb and Sammy L. Holcomb, and two nephews, William C. Holcomb and Sammy Leigh Holcomb Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Kathryn Berry; nieces: Charlotte Little, (husband, Dr. John), Jane Holcomb Berry (Johnny, deceased), Lee Anne Holcomb, Ryan Holcomb (Lee Anne), Dr. Thomas Firnberg, Robert Firnberg Jr.,(Lisa), Chuck Holcomb (Sue); and sisters-in-law, Anne Holcomb and Shirley Holcomb Hoggatt. . She is also survived by a host of great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were nephews and great-nephews.

Mrs. Murphy’s family wishes to thank Plantation Manor for the gentle care given to their relative and especially The Rev. Fran Guy who so faithfully ministered to their relative.

Interment followed in the New Winnsboro Cemetery. They request that planned memorials be sent to Gilbert Methodist Church.

Rev. Jackie R. Carroll

Funeral services for Rev. Jackie R. Carroll 59, of Jigger, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2019, in Jigger Apostolic Church.

Interment will follow in Shady Acres Pentecostal Church Cemetery, Ferriday, under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 5 – 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at the church. He died Sunday, June 9, 2019.

Sandra Stutts

Graveside services for Sandra Stutts, 66, of Bastrop were held Saturday, June 8, 2019, in Providence Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Paul Perry officiating under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home.

Sandra was born Oct. 8, 1952, in Winnsboro, to the union of Charlie Herbert Carraway and Lavinia Wilson Carraway, and passed from this life on June 6, 2019, at LeGrand Nursing Home in Bastrop.

She was a residence of Bastrop and was of the Pentecostal faith.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, and one sister Dorothy Carraway.

Survivors include her two children: Tiffany Stutts and Charles Stutts of Ohio; one grandson; two brothers: George Carraway of Winnsboro and Jimmy Carraway of Bastrop; two sisters: Joy Smith of Bastrop and Vivian Kimball of Houston, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Jessie Carraway, Keith Carraway, Tim Carraway and Shane Malone.

Louella Kenney Boothe

Funeral services for Louella Kenney Boothe, 88, were held at Rosin Creek Pentecostal Church in Harrisonburg, Sunday, June 9, 2019, with Rev. Chad Curry, Rev. B.J. Randall, Rev. A.J. Kimball and Rev. Gary Howington. Interment followed at Boothe’s Cemetery in Harrisonburg.

Louella was born on Dec. 6, 1930 in Wisner, to W.E. Kenney Sr. and Mary J. Kimball Kenney. She passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019, in Jonesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Melvin Alfred Boothe; son, Keith E. Boothe; and great-granddaughter, Adyson Randall; five brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her son, Melvin A. “Tony” Boothe; three daughters, Alfreida Curry and husband Rev. Charles Curry of Reisterstown, Md.; Denise Nicosia and husband Joe of Jonesville; Melanee Randall and husband Rev. Brent Randall of Jackson, Miss.; nine grandchildren, Laura Curry, Amy Curry, Chad Curry and wife Melissa, Jason Sikes and wife Leslie, Jonathan Sikes, Anna Tarver and husband Lee, Andrew Boothe, B.J. Randall and wife Sheree’, and LaDena Lowery and husband Brad; one brother, Philip Kenney; and two sisters: Betty Ruth Stephens and Margie Walker. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jason Sikes, Jonathan Sikes, Andrew Boothe, Jack Hudspeth, Kaleb Sikes, Gavin Lowery and Ab Tarver.

Sandra Leigh Reynolds Bass

A memorial service for Sandra Leigh Reynolds Bass, 57, of Newellton, will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Young’s Community Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Barkley Tullus officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, from 1 – 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors left to cherish her memory are her husband, Royce Allen Bass; daughters, Cayla Brooks and Ashley Brooks; son, Daniel Young and wife Clara; grandchildren: Joshua, Chloe, Brynleigh, Jacob, Hannah, Mica Jr., Junior, MaCayla, Marleigh, Jace, Levi, Emily, and Austin; brother, David Mchearn; sister, Kelley Ladwig and husband Ray; and Crystal Stroud and husband Bob; niece, Christina; and nephews: RJ, Henry, and Snooky.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Albert James and Dorothy Reynolds; brother, Elvis Griggs; and sister, Robbie Ott.

Mac Arthur Douglas

Funeral services for Mac Arthur Douglas, 54, of Wisner will be held Saturday, June 15, 2019, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul #1 Baptist Church in Wisner. Burial will follow at Oakley Cemetery under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home.

Mr. Douglas died June 6, 2019 at Allen Parish Hospital in Kinder.
