George W. Cummings Jr.

Funeral services for Mr. George W. Cummings Jr. will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Winnsboro.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday. Interment will follow at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Rayville. All arrangements are under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Winnsboro.

Mr. Cummings, founder and former President and Director of Progressive Bank, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019. Mr. Cummings served as President of Progressive from its inception in October 1975 until December 2000 and served as a member of the Bank’s Board of Directors from the inception of Progressive State Bank in 1975 until his retirement from the Board in 2007.

Mr. Cummings is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Campbell Cummings; sons: George W. Cummings III and wife Nan, and Paul D. Cummings; daughter, Sue Ellen Cummings Cascio and husband Rod; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be George W. Cummings IV, Bradley W. Cummings, Ben D. Cummings, Chris Cummings, Ryan Cummings and Adam Cascio.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Jean Fletcher, Ray Bryan, R. Stewart Ewing Jr., J. Stewart Gentry, Harvey L. Hales Jr., David M. Hampton, Morris F. Mintz, James H. Murphy, Dewey F. Weaver Jr. and Dale O. Williams.

Fredrick D. Grant

Funeral services for Fredrick D. Grant, 46, of Winnsboro were held Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Abundant Life Church in Winnsboro. Burial followed at Hope Estate Cemetery in Wisner under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home.

Mr. Grant died May 13, 2019, at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.

He is survived by his wife, Donnabel Grant; sons: Jedez Whitley, Fredrick D. Grant Jr., Jamiroquan Whitley, all of Winnsboro; Frederic Robertson, Oak Cliff, Texas; daughters: Breanna Boley, Virginia; Latia Grant and D’Angel Grant, both Winnsboro; brothers: Christopher Swayzer, Derrick Grant, Jarvis Grant, Brandon Grant, Bob Collins, Tyrone Van Buran and Nicholas Queen, all of Winnsboro; sisters: Susan Grant and LaWanda Winters, both of Winnsboro; six grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Christopher Swayzer, Terrance Webb, Talanzo Jackson, Broderick Grant, Quincy Williams and Willie Tillman.

Elizar Jane Heckard

Funeral services for Elizar Jane Heckard, 63, of Extension were held Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Locust Hill Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home.

Ms. Heckard died May 13, 2019, at Oschner Medical Center in Shreveport.

She is survived by a son, Kenneth Ray Heckard, San Antonio, Texas; brothers: Granville Heckard, Baton Rouge; Archie Heckard, Lake Charles; Rev. Amos Heckard Jr., Wisner; sisters: Ollie Hudson, Baton Rouge; Georgia A. Heckard, Monroe; Sandra H. Tolliver, St. Louis, Mo.; Dorothy Bullock, Winnsboro; Brenda Heckard, Extension; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Curtis Bullock, Edward Doyle, Curzensky Heckard, Kelvin Heckard, Samuel Heckard and Reginald Ridley.

Lula B. Jackson Thomas

Funeral services for Lula B. Jackson Thomas, 74, of Winnsboro will be held Saturday, May 25, 2019, at 11 a.m. .at Pleasant Star Baptist Church. Internment will follow at Morning Star Cemetery, under the direction of King’s Funeral Home of Ruston.

Mrs. Thomas was born June 11, 1944 and passed away May 16, 2019.

Visitation will be May 24 from 4 to 6 p.m., with wake from 6-7 p.m.
