Union takes advantage of FP mistakes

Franklin Parish head coach Whitney McCartney knew Union was due for a good game after the Famers had stumbled its way to a 3-2 record.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, the Farmers seem to find that game Friday night in Winnsboro as Union blanked Franklin Parish 36-0.

“We were inside their 20-yard line three times and turned it over three times,” McCartney said. “Then we had a bad snap on a punt — the first all year — and they score off of that. We have to stop shooting ourselves in the foot. But i’m not taking anything away from Union. They have a really good ball club.”

Union freshman Treyvion Holly rushed for 211 yards on 14 carries.

“He’s the real deal,” McCartney said.

McCartney lost starting fullback Mike Cook on the first series, and Troy Meadows was banged up during the game.

“Our injuries continue to mount,” McCartney said. “But hopefully we’ll get a couple back this week.”

Franklin Parish plays at Neville Friday.

Neville lost to West Monroe 41-14 Friday. The Tigers fell to St. Thomas More 35-6 two weeks ago. Neville has posted wins over University Lab, Ouachita Parish and Ruston.

“They have had some injuries as well, but nothing like what we have,” McCartney said. “We have to go out and play mistake-free football.”

Neville is ranked No. 6 in the Class 4A power rankings, while Franklin Parish is at 33.
