Ouachita Parish sheriff's deputies arrested a Monroe man on suspicion of firearm theft last week after authorities received a complaint that a man's firearm went missing after he left it on a coffee table.
The complainant said Alexis Warren Fountain, 51, of 1602 Georgia St., Monroe, visited his home on Jan. 6, and the complainant admitted he left his gun on a coffee table in the living room.
After Fountain left, the gun was missing, the complainant claimed.
“Victim said arrestee had been inquiring about the gun for several days,” stated the arrest report.
Another person present during Fountain's visit told deputies they saw Fountain remove an item from the coffee table but could not discern whether he had taken a gun.
“Witness said the arrestee left shortly after removing something from the coffee table,” stated the arrest report.
Deputies tried to make contact with Fountain, but Fountain refused commands to stay outside. Fountain went inside his residence, leading to a brief stand-off with deputies. Fountain was ultimately taken into custody, and a lawful search of his home led to the recovery of the complainant's firearm.
Fountain was booked at Ouachita Correctional Center on the above charge as well as on resisting an officer.
