Monroe police arrested two people for possession of crack cocaine on Monday after authorities received a complaint about trespassing at a room in the Quality Inn on Martin Luther King Jr Drive.
Through a window at the inn, police observed James Tyrone Johnson, 53, of 213 Selmah Drive, Monroe, sweep an unknown substance into a drawer. Later, during a search, police found three grams of crack cocaine inside a bag in the drawer.
Police also observed the drug on the floor and on a bed.
Officers observed Lequita Lenay Dawson, 29, of 311 6th St., West Monroe inside a room at Quality Inn, where she was sitting on a couch near the drawer containing the bag of crack cocaine.
During questioning, Dawson admitted the drug was crack and she claimed it belonged to other people in the room. The drawer was within arm's reach of Dawson.
Police found a clear pipe commonly associated with smoking crack in the couch where Dawson was sitting. Later, Dawson said she smoked two days prior to the incident.
Dawson was booked at Ouachita Correctional Center on possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Johnson was booked at OCC on possession of crack cocaine and resisting an officer (false identification).
