Ouachita Parish sheriff's deputies arrested an Alabama man on suspicion of aggravated assault with a firearm and other charges last week after authorities were notified of a disturbance at a gas station on Hwy 546.
After arriving at the gas station, deputies found Jeremy Rex Cantrell, 38, of 607 Reed Road, Guin, Alabama, inside a truck with a handgun. Deputies ordered Cantrell to exit the vehicle, but he would not.
A victim informed deputies that Cantrell tried to drop her off at a gas station, leave her there and continue driving west. The victim said she and a witness began arguing with Cantrell, who produced a handgun and pointed it at them. The victim said she ran away from Cantrell's tractor-trailer.
Cantrell eventually surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody. A loaded 9mm handgun was found in his truck as well as one gram of methamphetamine.
Cantrell was booked at Ouachita Correctional Center on the above charge, on one count of illegal carrying of weapons in presence of drugs, and possession of methamphetamine.
