Monroe police officers arrested a West Monroe woman last week on charges of theft, criminal conspiracy and possession of marijuana.
According to the arrest affidavit, Ashlei Michelle Duckett, 29, of 424 West Heights Drive, West Monroe, was arrested when officers completed a fraud investigation that began in January.
The investigation stemmed from incidents at 600 Louisville Ave. concerning felony theft by fraud and criminal conspiracy. Officers investigated the involvement of Duckett and others in a scam to to make a personal gain from these fraudulent acts.
“Duckett conspired with other people to go out into the community and solicit new customers to take out loans,” the arrest affidavit states.
Duckett was approving new customers who did not meet loan requirements, which was against the store policy. According to the arrest affidavit, new customers were given partial loans and were told they would not have to pay back the loan.
The remainder of the loans was split by Duckett and the other people involved for personal gain. Officers discovered Duckett made 87 fraudulent loans causing the business to lose $80,258.54. During a search of Duckett’s purse, a small bag containing marijuana was found.
Duckett was booked at Ouachita Correctional Center and bonded on Thursday.
