West Monroe police arrested a Monroe man on suspicion of second-degree murder last week after authorities learned of a shooting in the 100 block of Linderman Avenue.

Police responded to the shooting around 5:23 p.m. and found a dispute had occurred between two individuals in the front yard of a residence. One person was shot multiple times and later died at a local hospital. Family members have been notified.

The victim was identified as Clara B. Hardwell. The suspect fled the scene. Detectives were able to identify him as Richard Lee Gilbert, 39, of Monroe.

Gilbert was taken into custody and booked at Ouachita Correctional Center.
