In this election, the 5th congressional district has to decide between a proven conservative Senator and an unqualified, confused candidate. In writing this letter, I hope to help the voters understand the man who is running against Senator Riser is not who he says he is.
Vance McAllister does not have a record, so all we have to base our decision on is his statements, his associations, and his endorsements. I urge the voters in the 5th District to carefully evaluate the candidates and not get caught up in the celebrity hype of Mr. McAllister’s campaign. The issues facing our country are far too important to just hand the reins over to a novice who cannot even state clearly and consistently where he stands and what he believes.
It is also a concern that conservatives seem to be aligning with a progressive candidate, Vance McAllister. The recent endorsement of Mayor Jamie Mayo, who ran his campaign on a liberal Pro-Obama agenda, is proof that Vance McAllister will cater to whatever group to which he is speaking in order to find favor.
Having listened to and watched Vance McAllister in the video interview with the News Star Editorial Board, it is obvious Mr. McAllister cannot speak to the issues without a teleprompter or ability to have multiple retakes. While his commercials may appeal to you, Mr. McAllister lacks the knowledge and ability to speak to the issues in a direct manner, and he seems to alter his address depending on the group he is speaking to at the time. It is no wonder Mayor Jamie Mayo has chosen to endorse Vance McAllister. Not because Mr. McAllister is “approachable,” but instead it is because Vance McAllister has said things that Mayor Mayo agrees with politically.
Vance McAllister has the support of liberal Mayor Jamie Mayo, while Neil Riser has the endorsement of Senator Elbert Guillory (according to Guillory’s Facebook page). This should speak volumes alone.
Vance is no different than any other career politician because he is willing to say and do whatever it takes to get elected; however, he continues to criticize people he deems as career politicians.
The 5th District needs someone like Neil Riser who is a proven leader that does not and will not alter his stance based upon the direction the wind is blowing or the audience he is addressing.
