Patton Sims finished runner-up in the 3200 meters to highlight the parish’s performance in the LHSAA/Allstate Sugar Bowl Class 3A State Track & Field Meet, held Saturday at Bernie Moore stadium on the campus of LSU.

Earning silver for the second straight year, Sims covered the eight-lap course in 10:19.60. Ivan Appleton of St. Louis was the gold medalist with a 10:07.71 readout. Yves Uwimana of Haynes Academy claimed the final spot on the podium with a third-place time of 10:21.93. Sterlington was also represented in the race by Tony Velasquez, who placed ninth at 11:35.35.

Also making the podium from Ouachita Parish were Clay Vaughn of Sterlington in the 110-meter hurdles and Carroll’s 4 x 400-meter relay team.

Vaughn crossed the line with a clocking of 14.98, trailing Javondre Edwards of Eunice (14.71) and Shamar Smith of St. James (14.86).

Carroll’s 4 x 400m relay foursome of Donald Nabors, Cameron Webster, Emmonte Brown and JaCoby Brown put together a time of 3:28.38. Glen Oaks won the event as Tayshaun Wells, Tywane Ransome, Kiren Smith and Latroy Lathers combined for a 3:23.14 printout. DJ Morton, Dillon Smith, Jeremiah Cook and Shawn Jones of University High were runner-up with 3:25.71.

West Feliciana amassed 69 points to claim the Class 3A team trophy. St. Louis was a distant second with 34 points while Jewel Sumner was third with 32. Sterlington totaled 21 points to finish eighth overall. Wossman tallied eight points while Carroll was credited with seven.

Justin Fuller took the fourth spot in the javelin with a distance of 161-02 to lead Sterlington in the field events.

Vaughn added a fifth-place showing for the Panthers in the 300m hurdles (43.03), and Sam Gilbert (10-06) and Scott Aldridge (10-00) went 6-7 in the pole vault.

Sterlington’s 4 x 800m relay team of Austin Hunsaker, Logan Wagner, Tommy Armstard and Tanner Armstard was ninth at 9:50.47.

Highlighted by a fourth-place showing in the 4 x 100m relay, Wossman scored in all three of its events. Dezmon Watson, Stephen Maxwell, Davonta Brown and De’Von Johnson circled the track in 42.71.

Wossman placed fifth in the 4 x 800m relay as Watson, Demelus Williams, Davonta Brown and Johnson posted a time of 1:30.62.

Micah Allen accounted for the Wildcats’ only points in the field with a fifth-place showing in the long jump (20-11.75).

JaCoby Brown wrapped up Carroll’s scoring by placing sixth in the 200m dash (22.71).

Ryan Deburr added an eight-place finish for the Bulldogs in the high jump (10-0).
