Employees from NBC 10 and FOX 14 participated in sorting, bagging and transporting 4.8 tons of non-perishable food items to the Wellspring in Monroe to be distributed to area homeless veterans.

The food was donated by customers at Mac’s Fresh Market locations in Monroe, West Monroe and Columbia by purchasing $6 bags and from general donations from the public.

The total amount donated over four years is expected to be about 28 tons.

The event was a part of Nexstar Media Group’s annual Founder’s Day of Caring, a day on which Nexstar’s TV stations pick a method of giving back to the community and volunteering their time on or around the anniversary of the company’s founding, June 17, 1996.

Representatives from NBC 10 and FOX 14 would like to thank, Mac’s Fresh Market, Drax, the Wellspring, the United Way of Northeast Louisiana, Johnny’s Pizza House, Newk’s Eatery, Slim Chickens, Zaxby’s, Chick-fil-A and King Springs for helping make this year’s food drive a success.
