The Lord's promise is to be with us even when we stumble around trying to figure out our situation without Him! When we choose to walk with Him and trust in Him, He watches us and wants our persistence rather than our perfection! Thanks to Him who continues to forgive us. Adapted from “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young.
Kit Kelley, President, and the Bayou DeSiard Country Club Bridge group, honored Loretta Rivers with a fabulous "After Bridge Party" for having achieved the highest rank of any bridge player in Monroe. She is the highest ranking member in the American Contract Bridge League in her age group and the second highest ranked woman in the United States. She won the McKinney Award last year and is on schedule to win again. She has placed second in the five state region including: Tennessee, Louisiana, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi!
Her lovely daughter, Robin Rivers Daly, my Godchild, flew in for the occasion and brought her mom magnificent white orchids. Her world famous partner, Mike Cappelletti, came to play with her and celebrate her bridge accomplishments. Last year, she played with Cappelletti and Jeff Meckstroth in the World Championships in China.
At LSU, she graduated first in the College of Business Administration and was awarded the Centennial Scholar Medal. She was elected Coed Vice-president of the LSU Student Body, served on the National Council of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity and she was a former BDCC Mardi Gras Queen.
Loretta gives credit to her good friend, Barbara Norris, for getting her back to duplicate bridge after a 25-year career with Merrill-Lynch. Barbara, along with talented Kerstin Pohlman, gathered roses and hydrangeas and Kit Kelley planned the delicious hors d'oeuvres for the cocktail buffet. Bridge friends showered her with gifts and affection. A book is in the making by Karen Haik, Robin, and me as the bridge world recognizes one of its best!
Ray Armstrong's two handsome grandsons, the brothers David and Ryan, 6.3 and 6.4 respectively, have both signed contracts with Major League Baseball teams. They are both pitchers with David playing for the Kansas City Royals and Ryan was drafted out of high school by the Miami Marlins' organization.
That is really something unique for our town! Ray and LaNell, we are so proud of them with you! See photos!
The Cancer Prayer and Support Group under the leadership of Mike and Margaret McInnis will meet at 12:15-1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, on the second floor of Washington Plaza! All are welcome!
Three people need special recognition for working hard to teach and get new folks interested in bridge. Karen Haik, Martha Young and Jack Trammell teach and encourage others! We send love and many thanks!
From Mother Teresa...
"If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway! Give the world the best that you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway. For you see, in the end, it is between you and God! It was never between you and them anyway."
Sending my best to all,
