The ULM Warhawk defense provides the pass rush while the Wake Forest quarterback looks to throw from his own end zone.  ULM defeated Wake Forest 17-10 in the season opener for both teams.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) Warhawks scored 17 unanswered points in the second half to claim a 17-10 victory over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Thursday, August 28 at JPS Field at Malone Stadium on the campus of ULM.

The Warhawks defense dominated the Wake Forest offensive attack in route to only allowing 94 yards of total offense from the Demon Deacons including a negative three yards rushing on the night.

Wake Forest was able to get on the board first when Kevin Johnson returned a Warhawk blocked punt 25 yards for a touchdown.  Michael Weaver was successful on the extra point to give Wake Forest a 7-0 with 12:10 remaining in the first quarter.

ULM had a costly turnover late in the second quarter which led to a Weaver 38-yard field with 48 seconds remaining in the first half to give Wake Forest the 10-0 halftime lead.

On ULM's second drive of the second half, the Warhawks were able to move the ball down to the Demon Deacons' 13 yard line, but the drive staled there and ULM settled for a Justin Manton 30-yard field goal to make the score 10-3.

On the ensuing Wake Forest drive, ULM's Mitch Lane caught an interception after the ball bounced off a would-be receiver's chest, and Lane raced 31-yards to score the Warhawk's first touchdown of the game.  Manton was successful on the extra point to tie the game at 10-10 with just over 4 minutes remaining the third quarter.

ULM was able to take the lead on a 9-yard quarterback draw by senior quarterback Pete Thomas with 3:37 remaining in the game.  Again, Manton was successful on the extra point attempt to make the score 17-10 in favor of the Warhawks.

ULM's leading rusher was Centarius Donald  who had 26 rushes for 122 yards including an impressive 39 yard run in the second half. Tyler Cain rushed the ball 11 times for 46 yards.

In his first start at ULM, Thomas completed 23-of-41 passes for 189 yards while rushing the ball 4 times for 22 yards and a touchdown.  Kenzee Jackson was the leading receiver for the Warhawks with 6 receptions for 83 yards.
